BBC Reportedly Eyes Maya Jama for Major New Hosting Gig
The broadcaster is said to be looking to poach the popular presenter from ITV.
The BBC is reportedly targeting Maya Jama for a significant new hosting role, aiming to bring the popular presenter over from rival network ITV. Jama, currently the face of ITV's Love Island, has caught the attention of BBC executives following her successful stint on "The Traitors: Celebrity Edition."
Sources suggest that BBC bosses see Jama as possessing a blend of intelligence, glamour, confidence, and humor that would make her ideal for fronting major shows. The broadcaster is said to be identifying potential projects to entice her back to the BBC, where she began her career as a radio DJ for Radio 1.
Maya Jama's television career includes co-hosting "Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer" and the competition series "Glow Up" on the BBC. She took over hosting duties for "Love Island" in 2023 and has also served as a judge on "The Masked Singer."
Her role in "The Traitors: Celebrity Edition" saw her embrace a more ruthless persona as a cloaked villain, a performance that reportedly impressed viewers and solidified her appeal to a wider audience. Despite her memorable turn on the show, Jama was banished during the final roundtable, missing out on the prize pot. She was also notably absent from a special recording of "Celebrity Traitors Uncloaked," with her representative stating she was away filming.
Jama is currently involved in filming the third series of Guy Ritchie's drama "The Gentlemen." Her absence from the "Uncloaked" recording also coincided with preparations for her annual Halloween party, a high-profile event attended by numerous celebrities.
"The Traitors: Celebrity Edition" finale saw Faithfuls Romesh Ranganathan and Sebastian Croft crowned winners, each securing £41,500 for their chosen charities. The final episode reportedly garnered a peak audience of 11.6 million viewers.
