BBC Racing Commentator and Daughter Complete 120-Mile Walk to Honor Murdered Family
John and Amy Hunt walk from their home to Bournemouth, raising funds for the Hunt Family Fund.
BBC racing commentator John Hunt and his daughter Amy have completed a 120-mile charity walk, dedicating the journey to his wife Carol and daughters Hannah and Louise, who were murdered in July 2024.
The pair spent nine days walking from their family home in Bushey, Hertfordshire, to Bournemouth, Dorset, a place that held special significance for the family. They were joined by 20 friends and family members for the final leg of their journey.
Kyle Clifford, 26, was convicted of the murders and sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of release. He fatally stabbed Carol, 61, before raping and then shooting Louise, 25, and Hannah, 28, with a crossbow. John and Amy read victim impact statements during the trial, and the judge commended their courage and dignity.
The Hunt Family Fund
Following the tragedy, John and Amy established the Hunt Family Fund to support initiatives combating male violence against women and girls, as well as other causes important to the family. The fund has already raised over £90,000.
"Their lives were full of such passion, fun, humour, energy and sensitivity, and they had such a positive impact on everyone close to them," Amy said in December 2025 when launching the fund. "It is so important to Dad and I that this Fund reflects them as people. We hope that our Fund will reflect their capacity for joy, their generosity, and their truly wonderful spirits."
The Journey
John, who has been a BBC racing commentator since 2004, described the walk as a period filled with both "laughs" and "very sad and difficult moments" as they remembered their lost loved ones. He noted the emotional and physical toll, stating his calves needed attention and his feet were sore, but emphasized the mutual support between him and Amy.
"It mirrors life in many ways, as so often you get battered down and are crawling on your knees but you have to find a way of getting back up again," John reflected.
Bournemouth held a particular fondness for the Hunt family. John recalled visiting the town with his wife when she was pregnant with Amy, and it became a regular holiday destination for them.
Former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp and his wife Sandra, who know John through horseracing, hosted the walkers at a reception in Bournemouth upon their arrival.
