BBC Presenter Peter Levy's On-Air Joke Sparks Laughter and Social Media Buzz
Veteran BBC Look North host Peter Levy drew widespread amusement after a humorous remark about car names during a live broadcast.
BBC Look North presenter Peter Levy recently found himself struggling to maintain composure after delivering a lighthearted, cheeky joke live on air.
The veteran broadcaster, aged 71, was unable to contain his laughter following his own quip made at the end of a report that featured a Dacia Sandero car.
"I love the car names. Phillip Norton, who is always looking for an escort," Levy quipped. The remark quickly resonated with viewers, who took to social media to share their amusement.
Online reactions included comments such as "The man’s a comedic genius," and "One of the perks of now living in Grimsby is watching Peter and his cheeky one liners." Some users playfully suggested that the producer might be intervening, with one comment stating, "You know he’s got the producer in his ear," and another predicting, "HR will be calling him in the morning."
Levy is known for his on-air humor, and this is not the first time his playful remarks have entertained the audience.
In a previous instance in 2024, Levy had to stifle his laughter after an accidental innuendo while discussing narrow parking lines. A report by Becki Bowden highlighted that Yorkshire Council had admitted to painting parking lines too narrowly for average cars in Goole. Bowden noted that the lines were likely to be repainted, advising viewers, "don't worry if your parking is looking a little dodgy" until then. Upon returning to the studio, Levy remarked, "Yes, so many people in Goole looking forward to those extra inches on Wednesday," before dissolving into laughter upon realizing his unintended double entendre.
Another memorable moment involved Levy being left blushing and speechless after reading a risqué email from a viewer. After a weather forecast, weatherman Paul Hudson made a jest about Levy's pale suit, suggesting a viewer had emailed in to ask if he was umpiring a cricket match immediately after the broadcast. Hudson encouraged Levy to respond, to which Levy replied, "Yeah, you can go on, that's the problem! I have nothing to say, no, I could see it a mile off, just get it out of your system." Levy then attempted to read out a viewer email from "Ann Yates," which began, "I would love to have Paul face upwards," but was forced to stop abruptly. He went visibly red and exclaimed, "Hang on, hang on" before bursting into laughter. Weatherman Paul humorously stated he was "lost for words" but urged Levy to continue reading. Levy, however, confessed, "No, I've just read the next line, I can't do it," and the show ultimately promised viewer Ann a "Leave It To Levy" coaster for her contribution.
