BBC presenter Chemmy Alcott, 44, was hospitalized after sustaining a collapsed lung during a family holiday in the French Alps. The incident occurred when Alcott attempted a front flip off a five-meter platform into Lake Annecy and experienced a difficult landing.
Alcott shared on Instagram that she was left struggling to breathe due to the collapsed lung and required a chest drain. She described the event as a "badly timed front flip" and "a very expensive lesson in rotation." Despite the injury, Alcott initially jumped a second time due to embarrassment before realizing the severity of her condition and seeking medical attention. She was enjoying the holiday with her husband, former British skier Dougie Crawford, and their two sons.
Alcott, who retired from competitive skiing in 2014, is known for her role on BBC's "Ski Sunday" and her coverage of the Winter Olympics. She previously competed on ITV's "Dancing On Ice," an experience she credited with providing the financial means for her comeback to competitive skiing. Her former "Dancing On Ice" partner, Sean Rice, passed away in 2022.
Alcott received numerous get-well messages from friends and fans following the incident.
