BBC Presenter Amy Irons Announces First Pregnancy Live On Air
Amy Irons, a BBC news and sports presenter, revealed live on Radio Scotland that she and her partner are expecting their first child.
BBC presenter Amy Irons announced live on air that she is expecting her first child with her boyfriend, P.E. teacher Elliot.
Irons, 35, shared the news during her Radio Scotland show, "The Saturday Show," which she co-hosts with Steven Mill. "I am not often nice to you, Steven, but it does feel like a full-circle moment... I’m expecting a baby," she told her co-host and listeners.
She indicated that the baby is due next spring, suggesting she was aware of the pregnancy in June. Irons shared that she is continuing a family tradition, noting that she has four brothers, many boy cousins, and a nephew. "It was always going to be a boy, wasn’t it?" she quipped.
In addition to co-hosting "The Saturday Show," Irons is a newsreader for "Reporting Scotland" and hosts BBC Scotland's "Hogmanay" show. She has cited former "Hogmanay" presenter Jackie Bird as an inspiration for her career. Irons previously shared a video of herself performing her own childhood Hogmanay show in front of the television, juxtaposed with footage of her hosting the BBC program.
Irons and Elliot, who is 38, have reportedly been dating since the end of last year. The announcement follows a difficult period for Irons, during which her former boyfriend, Wayne Ewer, passed away in 2018 after struggling with depression. Irons has stated that this tragedy influenced her perspective, making her more empathetic when discussing trauma with interviewees.
