Baylee Littrell, son of Backstreet Boys singer Brian Littrell, auditioned for American Idol, an appearance that recently resurfaced online and captivated judges including Lionel Richie.

Richie, 77, expressed surprise when he realized the 23-year-old aspiring musician was the son of his well-known peer. Baylee Littrell, who bears a strong resemblance to his father with his curly blond hair and mustache, has already gained performance experience, having opened for the Backstreet Boys on their DNA World Tour in 2019. At 16, he embarked on his first tour, fulfilling a dream he's held since he was six years old.

During his audition, judges noted his familiar appearance before learning of his lineage. Baylee shared with PEOPLE that he has always aspired to follow in his father's footsteps. He recounted a childhood moment when he tried on one of his father's performance jackets, telling Brian Littrell, "I want to be like you." This ambition has now led him to pursue a music career.

Initially anticipating a path in pop music, Baylee found himself drawn to country music through his grandparents. His parents encouraged him to explore this new genre, which he has now embraced. The Backstreet Boys were formed in 1993 by Lou Pearlman, with original members including Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough, Kevin Richardson, AJ McLean, and Nick Carter.
