New York City witnessed an extraordinary baseball feat this past Saturday as a handful of dedicated fans managed to attend three Major League Baseball games in just nine hours. The unique scheduling quirk, which saw the New York Yankees host a day-night doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox in the Bronx and the New York Mets play the Houston Astros in Queens, created a rare opportunity for fans to experience an extended baseball marathon across the city's boroughs.

Brooklyn resident Dana Nauta and her friend Carly Henry were among those who seized the chance to attend all three games. Nauta described the anticipation, saying she and her friend were "pumped" for the event. "She [Carly] texted me first thing in the morning and she was like, ‘It’s like Christmas morning.’ And the night before, I was so excited," Nauta told the New York Post.

The logistical challenge of traveling between Yankee Stadium in the Bronx and Citi Field in Queens within the tight timeframe required careful planning. The first Yankees game began at 1 p.m., followed by the Mets game at 4 p.m., and concluding with the second Yankees game at 7 p.m. This compressed schedule left little room for extra innings, subway delays, or unforeseen gameday issues.

"We kind of negotiated that we would be OK leaving early. We would make game time decisions on what to prioritize based on how the games were going and how the team seasons were going," Nauta explained. To stay updated on the games they couldn't fully watch while in transit, Nauta and Henry followed the action on their phones.

Other fans also documented their attempts to complete the tripleheader on social media. Nathaniel Rakich noted on X that he and his companions missed less than four innings out of a possible 27, calling the experience "exhausting, hectic… and unforgettable."

Nauta also mentioned encountering a family who was undertaking an even more ambitious baseball pilgrimage. This family reportedly attended an event at Citi Field at 9 a.m. before heading to Yankee Stadium, then back to Citi Field, and finally returning to Yankee Stadium, demonstrating an even more intense dedication.

The demanding schedule also led to some unusual choices, including Nauta changing her attire to avoid wearing her Francisco Lindor Mets jersey in the Yankees' bleacher seats for the final game. "I did a full wardrobe change because I was wearing my [Mets infielder Francisco] Lindor jersey. I’m gonna wear a non-denominational T-shirt to sit in the bleachers," she said.

Despite the frantic pace for some, for many stadium-goers, it was a typical Saturday of baseball. "These people don’t even know what we’re doing. We’re absolute psychos right now," Nauta joked about her and her friend's ambitious undertaking.

The day concluded with mixed results for the teams: the Yankees lost their first game of the doubleheader but won the second, while the Mets secured a victory against the Astros. Ultimately, the unique scheduling allowed a select group of fans to achieve a rare baseball tripleheader in the Big Apple.
