A Baltimore couple is facing charges after their infant daughter died from severe head trauma and multiple skull fractures, according to court documents. Oscar Pineda, 21, and Katerin Monzon-Alvarado, 21, brought their 2-month-old daughter, Aida Alvarado, to a hospital on Wednesday with significant bruising around her eyes and jawline.

Pineda told authorities that "Satan" or a supernatural force swinging a door was responsible for the infant's injuries. Monzon-Alvarado offered a different account, suggesting their 2-year-old son might have caused the injuries by jumping on the bed, leading to the baby falling. Prosecutors noted that Monzon-Alvarado initially reported the baby became ill and bruised on Sunday, but brought her to the hospital on Wednesday when she became unresponsive.

Medical examinations revealed the infant suffered critical head and brain trauma, including frontal lobe hemorrhaging and a subdural hemorrhage. Hospital staff were unable to revive Aida Alvarado, and she was pronounced dead.

Both Pineda and Monzon-Alvarado were arrested and appeared in court on Friday. They face charges of child abuse, assault, and reckless endangerment, with a potential maximum sentence of 55 years. Prosecutors stated that the parents, identified as Guatemalan nationals, are considered a substantial flight risk.
