Uricchio's Trattoria, a Bakersfield establishment that had been a fixture in the downtown area for 31 years, has announced its closure. The restaurant posted on Instagram that the decision was difficult and came after facing challenges that could not be overcome.
"This decision did not come easily. In June of 2025 we celebrated 30 years in business. This past year, however, found us facing some hurdles we could not overcome," the statement read. "We are sad, but ever so grateful to all of you who supported us through the years. You brought the magic and have enriched our lives in so very many ways."
The restaurant, known for its role in energizing the downtown district and for dishes such as chicken piccata, initially announced a "summer break" in July but ultimately opted to remain closed.
Fans expressed their dismay at the closure, sharing memories of celebrations and regular dining experiences at Uricchio's. "To make it 30 years as an independent restaurant is nothing short of incredible. Thank you for an amazing run," one commenter wrote.
Uricchio's Trattoria first opened in 1995. It was founded by Nick Uricchio, who had previously served as the food and beverage manager at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and later ran the kitchen at the Friars Club of Beverly Hills. Following Uricchio's death in 2014, his daughter Claire Porter took over management of the restaurant.
Porter told Bakersfield.com that the closure was due to a combination of factors, including the loss of a longtime chef and pressures that intensified following the COVID-19 pandemic. She indicated a desire to spend more time at home, stating, "I feel like we had our moment in the sun and it was time."
