The remains of an infant, less than a month old, were found inside a portable toilet at the Electric Forest music festival in rural Michigan, authorities reported Sunday.

A worker for a portable toilet company discovered the baby during routine maintenance on the final day of the festival. Michigan State Police were notified and have launched an investigation.

Officials have not yet released details regarding the cause of death, the baby's sex, or whether any individuals connected to the infant have been identified. An autopsy was completed Monday, and investigators are awaiting the results. As of Tuesday, the death had not been classified as a homicide, according to Michigan State Police Lt. Pat Agema.

The Electric Forest festival, held at the Double JJ Resort, typically draws tens of thousands of attendees for electronic dance music and jam bands. Most attendees camp on the 2,000-acre property. The baby's body was found in the festival's camping area.

Festival organizers shared the state police's request for information on Monday, expressing their grief over the incident and urging attendees to cooperate with the investigation. Organizers have not yet responded to requests for comment.
