Authorities have named a baby girl whose body was discovered on a Welsh shoreline and are appealing for her mother to come forward, offering support services.
A baby girl discovered deceased on a Welsh shoreline has been named Ceri by authorities as the search for her mother continues. The infant's remains were found by a member of the public near Siliwen Road in Bangor, Gwynedd, on the afternoon of Sunday, September 27.
Preliminary post-mortem examinations suggest the baby may have been in the water for several weeks. Police are working with experts to determine the circumstances surrounding her death and to identify her parents.
Superintendent Llinos Daves of North Wales Police confirmed the infant had been named Ceri and urged the public to provide any relevant information. "All possible lines of inquiry are being followed, and we are awaiting results from several specialist tests, which we hope may provide us with new avenues to explore," Superintendent Daves stated. "I continue to appeal to dog walkers and other residents who have regularly walked in the Ashley Fields areas of Bangor since August 30 to contact us."
Authorities are requesting that anyone who captured photos or videos along the Menai Straits shoreline in Siliwen within the same timeframe upload them to the major incident public portal. A dedicated phoneline has also been established for Ceri's mother to reach out.
Fiona Giraud, director of midwifery and women's services for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, issued a direct appeal to the infant's mother. "You may not have felt confident to come forward yet, but please know that we have specialists ready to support you, no matter what the circumstances are, please get in touch," Giraud said. "Please, if you are seeing this message, call or text 07974 241223. When you call, you will speak directly to a trained specialist whose role is simply to listen and help. This is not a conversation you need to be afraid of. You will be treated with compassion, dignity and respect."
Police are also seeking information from the community regarding any concerns for a woman or girl in recent months. Superintendent Daves emphasized the importance of all details, stating, "We are not asking anyone to make assumptions or accusations. Something that appears insignificant or has an entirely innocent explanation may nevertheless be crucial to finding the truth for baby Ceri."
