A one-year-old boy is safe after his mother's car was stolen with him inside in Philadelphia on Monday night. The incident occurred just after 11 p.m. in the 3400 block of Henry Avenue when the mother briefly stepped out of the vehicle, leaving the child unattended.

The suspect took the car while the child remained inside. The mother had equipped the vehicle with a tracker, which police used to locate the stolen car in the 4000 block of Parkside Avenue in West Philadelphia. However, the child was no longer in the car seat when the vehicle was found abandoned.

Approximately 30 minutes later, the child's grandparents found him sitting on a sidewalk, a full block away from where the car theft initially took place. Officials believe the thief may not have realized the baby was in the car and subsequently abandoned the child. Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage and collecting forensic evidence, including fingerprints and DNA, from the recovered vehicle as they work to identify and apprehend the suspect.
