A four-month-old baby died after being brought unresponsive to a Sacramento fire station, and authorities have arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of homicide.

Sacramento police responded to the fire station on West El Camino Avenue on the morning of August 14, 2025, after receiving a report that the infant had been brought there from a nearby residence. Firefighters transported the baby to a local hospital, where lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful, and the child was pronounced dead. The Sacramento County Coroner's Office later determined the death to be a homicide.

Investigators identified Victor Weaver, a 22-year-old Sacramento resident, as a suspect. Police obtained a warrant for his arrest, and he was taken into custody on Tuesday and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. Authorities have not released further details regarding the circumstances of the infant's death or Weaver's connection to the child. The baby's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

California's Safely Surrendered Baby Law allows parents to anonymously surrender newborns 72 hours old or younger at designated safe havens, such as hospitals and fire stations, without fear of prosecution for abandonment, provided the infant shows no signs of abuse or neglect. However, this law would not apply in this case, as the infant was four months old, exceeding the 72-hour age limit.
