Baby Dies After Being Found Unresponsive in Ballarat Home; Homicide Squad Investigating
An eight-month-old girl was discovered by emergency services and later died in a Melbourne hospital.
Homicide squad detectives have launched a murder investigation into the death of an eight-month-old baby girl who was found unresponsive at a home in Ballarat, Victoria.
Emergency services were dispatched to a property on Leith Street in Redan, south of Ballarat, on Sunday. Paramedics attempted to revive the infant at the scene, performing CPR before transporting her to a hospital in Ballarat.
The baby was subsequently transferred to a Melbourne hospital, where she passed away on Tuesday. Police have interviewed a 23-year-old man, who has been released pending further investigation.
"The exact circumstances are yet to be determined and detectives from the Homicide Squad will investigate," a police spokesman stated.
