Author Amy Griffin Denies Threatening Reporter's Child

Socialite author Amy Griffin has denied allegations that she threatened the child of a New York Times reporter who wrote a story questioning the originality of Griffin's memoir.

Katherine Rosman’s September 2025 article raised questions about whether Griffin’s recollections of sexual abuse, which she stated she recalled after experimental MDMA treatments, were similar to the experiences of a former classmate. The classmate subsequently sued Griffin, who is married to hedge fund billionaire John Griffin, for defamation. Griffin counter-sued, alleging the classmate defamed her.

According to a report by Semafor, Griffin allegedly told attendees at Ari Emanuel's annual Aspen retreat that Rosman had made her and her children's lives difficult and that she intended to do the same to Rosman’s son. Griffin's representatives, in a statement to Page Six, categorically denied these claims, stating, "Amy Griffin has never threatened Katherine Rosman’s children or taken any action to harm Ms. Rosman or her family. These allegations are categorically false."

The spokesperson added that following the Times’ investigation, friends of Griffin’s daughter had discussed the reporting in a group chat, which had upset her daughter. Semafor reported that an attendee at the Aspen event interpreted Griffin’s remarks as a threat, prompting a mutual contact to warn Rosman. The New York Times’ legal counsel also reportedly spoke with Griffin’s attorney.

There is no indication that Griffin acted on any alleged threats or that Rosman's son faced any consequences related to college admissions. Griffin's spokesperson stated, "At an event shortly after publication, Mrs. Griffin was upset about the impact on her daughter and expressed those feelings in a conversation with a friend. Her words were later taken out of context and mischaracterized as a threat she never made."

Semafor also reported that Griffin was accused of asking someone with influence over university admissions to help ensure Rosman’s children were rejected from a major American university. Griffin's representatives denied she had contacted anyone at a school regarding the children.

The controversy has reportedly strained Griffin's social relationships, with some individuals seeking to distance themselves from her, while others remain supportive. Griffin is a known investor in ventures such as Goop and Hello Sunshine.

Broadcaster Billy Bush has also claimed on his podcast that Griffin confronted him at a wedding earlier this month, stating, "In my opinion, she is a woman who has become unhinged, tearing down innocent people, trying to ruin lives and careers." He further alleged that Griffin has attempted to block individuals from attending schools and threatened to bankrupt media publications and individuals, including himself.

Griffin's legal dispute with her classmate is ongoing.
