Sarame Cornish, 33, has revealed her decision to leave a lucrative project management role that paid $150,000 annually, a significant achievement as the first in her family to earn such a salary. She cited overwhelming work hours, typically 50-60 per week, which ultimately impacted her health and overall well-being.

In 2023, Cornish resigned from her position, prioritizing her health, time, and freedom over the demands of her corporate career. She now works in a hospitality role at a beachfront restaurant and resides in a shared house in Bondi. Despite a $100,000 reduction in income and stepping away from her goal of homeownership, Cornish asserts the trade-off has been worthwhile.

"I'm 33, working casually, not financially supported by anyone but myself, and I'm so much happier," Cornish stated, reflecting on her current lifestyle. She pays $280 weekly for her accommodation and suggests that a detailed life plan is not always necessary.

Cornish noted that many of her peers are currently navigating the pressures of substantial mortgages amidst the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. "I don't think I could even get a home loan," she admitted, adding that buying property in Australia at its current market prices does not seem like a sound investment for her at this time.

She shared that her decision has resonated with others, as her experiences posted online indicate a shared sentiment among many. "The more I share my reality, I've realized so many other people are in the same boat, and that's helping me let go of it all," she said. While the future remains unwritten, Cornish remains optimistic that she will achieve her goals, albeit in a manner that may differ from conventional expectations. "It's just going to look different from most people," she concluded.
