LAS VEGAS – An Australian tourist has been missing for over three weeks after telling a friend she was going for a hike in Las Vegas. Sally Grace Contarino, 26, was last heard from on June 20, when she sent a Facebook message stating she was heading to Lone Mountain for a hike. Her current whereabouts remain unknown, and it is unclear if she was accompanied at the time of her disappearance.
Police have expressed concern for Contarino, noting she may be experiencing severe emotional distress and require medical assistance. She was last known to be near 9700 West Skye Canyon Drive around 1 p.m. on June 20. This area in northwest Las Vegas is situated close to a busy intersection with commercial establishments.
Contarino had arrived in Nevada from Melbourne on June 13 and confirmed her arrival at the Bungalows Hostel on Las Vegas Boulevard in downtown Las Vegas to her sister on June 18. She was scheduled to fly back to Melbourne on June 21 but did not board her return flight, according to authorities. Investigators noted she used the WISE money transfer app and owned an Apple cell phone.
A video taken by an individual identified as “@epicdamianpov” shortly before her disappearance captured an interaction with Contarino outside a 7-Eleven on Boulder Highway near Flamingo Road. In the footage, the individual approached Contarino, asking for her number, to which she replied she had a boyfriend and was going to have a cigarette. The video was later shared online and had garnered significant views.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police reported that Contarino was last seen wearing a gray-blue sweatshirt, jean shorts, and black-and-white shoes. She is described as having brown hair and brown eyes, standing approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing around 130 pounds.
The search for Contarino has involved international cooperation, with Australian authorities being notified by Victoria Police, who then alerted Interpol US. The Deputy Consul-General from the Australian Consulate in Los Angeles has also been in contact with the Las Vegas Metro Police. Contarino's family, including her sister, has traveled to Las Vegas to assist in the search and ascertain what happened.
