Australian sprint champion Jake Doran has been charged with a child sex offense and provisionally banned from athletics.

Doran, 26, was arrested by Townsville detectives on October 13. Queensland Police stated he faces one count of indecent treatment of a child under 16. The investigation relates to alleged offending between January 2025 and September 2026.

Doran was granted bail and is scheduled to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on November 5. His athlete profile is no longer available on the Australian Athletics website, and his Instagram account has been deleted.

Australian Athletics confirmed it has imposed restrictions preventing him from participating in training or attending events at any level of the sport. "The safety and wellbeing of all participants in our sport is paramount, and we take all allegations of this nature very seriously," a spokesperson said.

"Based on information provided to Australian Athletics, the organisation has imposed a provisional action on the athlete, prohibiting him from attending club, member association or Australian Athletics events, as well as banning him from participating in athletics training."
