Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has issued an apology after making what critics called an "inappropriate" comment about pop star Kylie Minogue on a podcast.
During an appearance on a podcast, host Nikki Osborne asked Albanese and other guests if they would want to "marry, shag, and date" Minogue. Albanese, who married his partner Jodie Haydon in November 2025, initially demurred but eventually responded, "Oh, Kylie, clearly."
When Osborne pressed him, asking if he would "marry, shag her, and date her?" Albanese replied, "All of the above."
The exchange drew criticism from members of the Australian parliament. Zali Steggall, a representative for the Community Strong Australia party, told The Australian newspaper that it was "entirely inappropriate for the Prime Minister to participate in such a game." Steggall added that Albanese "needs to learn to push back, lead by example and call it out as sexist."
Sarah Henderson, an opposition Senator for Victoria, stated on social media that Albanese's comments were "disrespectful to women, embarrassing to Australians and demean the office of Prime Minister." She further characterized the remarks as Albanese having "got into the gutter with his grubby remarks."
Albanese's office has not provided further comment beyond his public apology.
