Kelly Arvan, a mother of two from Victoria, Australia, has alerted others to meticulously check their bank statements after discovering she was unknowingly paying for 15 different subscription services, totaling over $3,170 annually. The discovery was prompted when her father, using her Amazon account, pointed out an unexpected film rental cost.

Upon investigating her Amazon account settings, Arvan found recurring charges for services she either believed were canceled or had forgotten about, including Netflix, PlayStation, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible. This led her to conduct a comprehensive review of her bank statements.

"Individually, some of the charges didn't seem like much, but when I added them all together, it was over $3,000 a year. That's a huge amount of money to be spending on things I wasn't even using," Arvan stated. She realized that many of these payments had been active for months, if not years. Among the forgotten subscriptions were HBO, Paramount, Sony, Stan Premium, Disney, MGM, Klaviyo marketing, and Invoice Plus. Arvan noted she had not used some services in years and, in one instance, was paying for PlayStation services despite not owning the console.

Arvan managed to cancel most of the subscriptions but encountered difficulties with one service, WASK, a follower giveaway generator she used over two years prior. She is still being charged approximately $29 per month for this service and is considering contacting her bank to halt the payments.

She shared her experience on TikTok, warning others of the potential for hidden charges to accumulate. Arvan described the realization as a "wake-up call" and a "huge life lesson" regarding regular financial audits. The only subscription she was actively using was Spotify Premium, which she canceled in frustration but intends to resubscribe to.

"It makes me feel sick to know that this much money has been wasted every single month for God knows how long," Arvan said. "But you don't learn until you learn."
