Federal Communications Minister Anika Wells has closed her electorate office temporarily following a security incident.

"Unfortunately, I've been advised we need to close the office temporarily while security improvements are made," Wells said in a statement on Friday. "Our staff deserve to feel safe at work and this kind of behaviour is unacceptable."

The incident occurred days after an alleged attack on Independent MP Helen Haines. Queensland Police have charged a 47-year-old woman with public nuisance in relation to the incident at Wells' office.
