Family and friends are seeking assistance in locating Jesse Bruzzese, a 35-year-old Western Australian man who has been out of contact for nearly a month while traveling in Mexico.
Mr. Bruzzese, from Perth, was last heard from on June 3. He had been traveling alone for approximately nine months and arrived in Mexico in May, with his last known location being the Riviera Maya region near Cancun.
Interpol has issued a yellow notice, an international alert to help locate missing or abducted persons, indicating that Mr. Bruzzese may have traveled to Cambodia, Mexico, the United States, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, and Indonesia.
"Our family has not heard from Jesse and we are becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare," his family stated on social media. "He has been travelling overseas, and we have been unable to confirm where he is or whether he is okay for three weeks."
Mr. Bruzzese is described as an experienced traveler who typically maintains regular contact with his family back home. His family reported him missing to WA Police, and the matter is being handled by the Missing Persons Unit.
"We are growing more worried as each day goes by," they added. "We aren't looking to pressure you or invade your privacy. We simply want to know that you're okay. Please reach out to someone and let them know you're safe."
Mr. Bruzzese is 176cm tall with brown hair and eyes. He has several distinctive tattoos, including a woman's face on his inner left arm, a person with wings on his upper left arm, Roman numerals, hands with a clock face, and roses on his left shoulder, as well as eagle wings across his left chest.
This disappearance follows other cases of Australians going missing in Mexico. In April 2024, surfers Callum and Jake Robinson from Perth were reported missing in Baja California. Their bodies were discovered in May 2024, having been shot during a robbery. In 2022, Tahnee Shanks of Queensland went missing in Cancun; her young daughter was found safe, but Ms. Shanks has not been located.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to Mr. Bruzzese's family. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is encouraged to contact WA Police or Crime Stoppers.
