An Australian man has claimed an $8 million Lotto prize on his birthday after purchasing a winning ticket online. The man held the sole division one winning entry in Oz Lotto draw 1699, which was drawn on Tuesday.
Officials from The Lott attempted to contact the winner on Wednesday morning, but he was unable to answer due to being at work. When they finally reached him, the man expressed disbelief and shock at his winnings.
"Oh my god! $8 million! I've won $8 million?!" he exclaimed. "It's my birthday today! How absolutely amazing. This is mind-boggling."
The winner mentioned that he and his wife usually go out for date nights every Saturday, and he often remarks about not having won the lottery. He plans to share the news with his wife in person after finishing work, intending to buy a bottle of champagne to celebrate.
He also shared that the win comes at a beneficial time, as his family has faced difficulties, including his own health challenges. "It's been a tough time for my family and I. I've had some troubles with my health, so this has come at a good time," he revealed.
The man intends to use the prize money to assist his family.
