Australian Childcare Worker Extradited to New South Wales on Child Abuse Charges

Ashley Paul Griffith, a former childcare worker, has been extradited from Queensland to New South Wales to face additional charges. Griffith is currently serving a life sentence in Queensland for offenses against 69 girls at early learning centers in Brisbane and Italy over two decades.

In New South Wales, Griffith faces 68 counts of sexual intercourse with a child under 10, 42 counts of aggravated sexual intercourse with a child under 10 while under authority, 69 counts of aggravated indecent assault, and 23 counts of producing child abuse material. Police identified 23 child victims during their investigation.

Griffith was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Bail Division Local Court 6 on Friday. Assistant Commissioner Brett Greentree of the State Crime Command stated that the charges stem from years of investigative work by the Child Abuse Squad and partner agencies. He emphasized the forensic examination of thousands of digital files and collaboration with law enforcement across Australia.

Detective Superintendent Linda Howlett, Commander of the Child Abuse Squad, highlighted that identifying the children and supporting their families was a central focus. The children involved in the alleged offenses were between one and five years old at the time. Detectives worked to identify victims, support families, and gather evidence for the court proceedings.
