Austin Reaves Planned to Text LeBron James About 76ers Debut
Reaves admitted it was "definitely different" to see James in a Philadelphia uniform.
Austin Reaves acknowledged the unusual sight of LeBron James in a Philadelphia 76ers uniform, admitting he almost texted his former Lakers teammate before James's regular season debut with the team. James spent eight consecutive seasons with the Lakers, his longest tenure with any franchise, before signing with the 76ers in free agency.
“I already seen him preseason,” Reaves said Tuesday at Lakers practice. “I almost texted him and told him he looked crazy. Nah, it’s definitely different. But that’s my guy and I wish him nothing but the best. And I’ll definitely watch the game tonight.”
James is set to make his regular season debut with the 76ers against the Knicks on Tuesday. James and Reaves played together for five seasons, including a Western Conference Finals appearance in 2024. Reaves, who signed a four-year, $180 million contract with the Lakers this offseason, had previously expressed a desire to continue playing with James.
“I didn’t end up texting him [about his uniform],” Reaves added. “I should’ve. I’ll definitely shoot him a text before the game tonight.”
