Aubrey Plaza Returns to Red Carpet Seven Weeks After Giving Birth
The actress, 42, attended the premiere of "East Of Eden" in New York to support her boyfriend, Christopher Abbott.
Aubrey Plaza made a public appearance just seven weeks after welcoming her first child, attending the premiere of "East Of Eden" in New York. The actress, 42, supported her boyfriend, Christopher Abbott, at the event held at The Plaza Hotel. Plaza appeared on the red carpet wearing a sheer black blouse, a black coat, a knee-length black skirt, and towering heels.
Plaza posed for photos solo at the premiere. Abbott, whom she was supporting, was dressed in a black suit. This marks Plaza's first public event since giving birth in late July. She had previously revealed that she and Abbott were expecting a baby girl.
The couple was first romantically linked in July 2025, several months after the death of Plaza's estranged husband, Jeff Baena. An autopsy report from the LA County Medical Examiner indicated that Baena died by suicide in January 2025 and that he and Plaza had been separated since September 2024.
Speaking about impending motherhood in April on "The View," Plaza expressed excitement, stating, "I am. Yeah, I've always wanted to see what that's all about, you know?"
"People" magazine confirmed Plaza's pregnancy in April, at which time she was reported to be due in the fall. A source told the publication that the pregnancy was "a beautiful surprise after an emotional year," adding that the couple felt "very blessed."
Plaza shared in April on the "SmartLess" podcast that she had moved back to New York and intended to raise her baby on the East Coast, closer to her family in Philadelphia and Delaware. "I'm back in New York ... Yeah ... [it's not] totally thought through but East Coast for sure," she said.
Abbott is known for his role as the on-off boyfriend of Marnie, played by Allison Williams, in Lena Dunham's HBO comedy "Girls." Plaza and Abbott previously collaborated on the 2019 independent film "Black Bear," where they both played dual roles as actors and directors. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2020.
In 2023, the pair reunited for an Off-Broadway revival of John Patrick Shanley's play "Danny And The Deep Blue Sea," which concluded in January 2024.
Before her pregnancy announcement, Plaza kept her relationship with Abbott private. A source reportedly spotted the couple being affectionate at Chatham Berry Farm in upstate New York in June 2025, approximately five months after Baena's death. Plaza and Abbott made their red carpet debut as a couple at the Tony Awards in June 2026, after approximately a year of dating.
