A team of civil rights attorneys is attempting to overturn the murder conviction of Karmelo Anthony, who was found guilty of fatally stabbing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf in April 2025. Anthony, who was 19 at the time of the incident, claimed self-defense during his trial.

The stabbing occurred at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas. Following a trial in McKinney, Texas, a jury deliberated for three hours before convicting Anthony of murder. He received a sentence of 35 years in prison.

The legal team is reportedly working pro bono, offering their services without charge, in an effort to secure an appeal and potentially overturn the conviction.
