An attempted kidnapping occurred at the Inwood–207th Street subway station in New York City on July 29, when a woman disguised in sunglasses and a bucket hat tried to abduct a 6-year-old girl. The suspect, who approached the child and her mother from behind, snatched the girl and attempted to pull her onto a southbound A train.
The mother intervened, thwarting the abduction attempt. The suspect then fled the station alone on the A train, according to law enforcement sources. The girl was treated by emergency medical services at the scene. The NYPD has released photos of the suspect and is asking for the public's assistance in identifying her. The woman was last seen wearing dark sunglasses, an oversized light blue hat, a black-and-white patterned shirt, and black pants.
Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the suspect's whereabouts to contact the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be submitted online via the Crime Stoppers website at https://crimestoppers.nypdonline.org/ or by direct message on X to @NYPDTips.
