A prominent athlete testified in Sydney Local Court that radio personality Alan Jones sent a text message stating he wanted to kiss the athlete "all night" following an alleged unwanted kiss. The athlete is the third alleged victim to provide evidence in the hearing where Jones faces 22 charges of indecent assault and sexual touching without consent, which he denies.

The athlete, who appeared in person, described meeting Jones as a teenager when the broadcaster was "overwhelmingly complimentary." Jones would refer to him as a "beautiful man" and "champion," offering hugs and texts that said, "If someone hasn't told you, let me be the first person to tell you you're special." The athlete testified that while initially flattered, the comments became uncomfortable.

The court heard that Jones also sent tableware and flowers to the athlete's home, and later advocated on his behalf when the athlete faced financial difficulties.

Years later, at a sporting function, Jones allegedly kissed the athlete "close to my lips ... the side of his lips." The athlete testified that he was shocked and embarrassed by the non-consensual kiss, which lasted a second or two, stating, "I think I froze at that time." He recalled thinking, "f*** what just happened? Why would someone do that?"

Later that evening, the athlete received a text message from Jones with words to the effect of "I would like to be kissing you all night." Crown prosecutor Georgina Wright SC indicated that the sportsman would also allege Jones pressed his body and genitals against him. The former Wallabies coach is charged with one count each of indecent assault and sexual touching without consent in relation to the athlete. Jones claims the alleged incidents did not occur. The athlete is the first of the complainants to testify in person; the previous two gave evidence remotely. The court session is closed to the public, with media permitted to dial in remotely.
