A 22-year-old graduate who had recently accepted her "dream job" to train as a detective has died following a three-vehicle collision in Northumbria.

Erin Bennett was killed when emergency services were called to the A1 near Felton shortly after 12:15 p.m. on Sunday. An investigation into the crash has been launched by Northumbria Police, who are appealing for witnesses.

Bennett, who had a degree in criminology and psychology, was due to begin her training with Northumbria Police to become a detective. Her family described her as "caring, thoughtful, and wonderful" and stated that her death has left a "huge hole that can never be filled."

"Erin lit up the room with her contagious smile and was loved by everyone," her family said in a statement. "She was so excited about her future after gaining her degree... She had recently got her dream job in Northumbria Police and was about to start her training to become a detective."

Her boyfriend, Craig, also paid tribute, calling her "the most beautiful, amazing and loveable girlfriend in the world" and "the light of my life."

Northumbria Police are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has CCTV or dashcam footage of the vehicles involved.
