Jason Zadrozny, the leader of Ashfield District Council, has been convicted of fraud and tax evasion.
A jury found Zadrozny guilty on nine counts of fraud and four counts of tax evasion, totaling 13 offenses.
The charges stemmed from allegations that Zadrozny established a fake heritage group to defraud Nottinghamshire County Council of thousands of pounds. Prosecutors also accused him of not paying taxes on four rental properties.
Zadrozny, 46, formerly served as an Ashfield Independents councillor on the county council.
