Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has voiced surprise at the elevated transfer fees being paid in the current market, noting that some player valuations have exceeded expectations. This comes as the club continues to assess options for a marquee attacker, with players like Victor Osimhen and Julian Alvarez having been linked to the North London club.

Mikel Arteta said he has been left surprised by the fees Premier League clubs are spending. Mikel Arteta said he has been left surprised by the fees Premier League clubs are spending.

"Yes, it has (transfer fees surprised me)," Arteta stated ahead of Arsenal's Community Shield match against Manchester City. "I wouldn't bet on that (such high prices) to be fair. But that's the market."

He acknowledged that some clubs are willing to invest heavily, believing in the valuations placed on players. "There are clubs that are happy to invest or they believe that the valuations of those players are that," Arteta explained. "And that's fair. At the end the value of the player is what somebody can pay for you and they've done it."

The Gunners have reportedly been reluctant to overspend, with the acquisition of Bruno Guimaraes for £75 million cited as an example of a significant investment. Players like Morgan Rogers, who was pursued by Arsenal, have moved for fees exceeding £100 million.

Nwaneri's Development and Potential Departure

Arteta also addressed the future of young player Ethan Nwaneri, indicating that a loan move could be considered if he cannot secure regular playing time at Arsenal. Nwaneri, who is 19, spent part of the previous season on loan at Marseille and has reportedly attracted interest from clubs including Galatasaray.

"It's unquestionable the talent, the desire, the love and the passion he has for the game. It's something that I've always loved about Ethan," Arteta said of the player. "I think he's had some great games and he's shown everybody that he has the ability to be here."

However, Arteta emphasized the importance of playing time for Nwaneri's development. "I want him to be at the club but something that, in the medium-long term, is best for the player as well," he stated. "Ethan needs to play football and if he stays here it’s because we can guarantee that he can have those minutes. Otherwise it's just something that is not good for anybody I think."

He left the door open to Ethan Nwaneri leaving Arsenal if he isn't going to get regular minutes. He left the door open to Ethan Nwaneri leaving Arsenal if he isn't going to get regular minutes.
