Arteta Defends Arsenal Job Cuts Amid Contract Extension

Mikel Arteta has defended Arsenal's decision to reduce its workforce by 60 employees, stating the move is necessary to "achieve the success we want to create." The job cuts will impact off-field roles and will not affect coaching staff, the men's and women's teams, the club's community operations, the Arsenal Foundation, or security personnel.

This decision comes shortly after Arteta signed a new four-year contract reportedly worth around £20 million annually. When questioned about the redundancies, Arteta stated that the exercise and analysis conducted across the club were aimed at evolution and improvement. He emphasized that decisions have been made to place individuals in appropriate roles and to continue investing in pursuit of the club's desired success. He declined to answer further questions on the matter, suggesting that others were better equipped to address the specifics.

In a separate matter, Arteta confirmed that Arsenal will retake its official squad photograph due to the omission of player William Saliba. The club had previously released a squad picture without the French defender, who was absent due to a doctor's appointment on the day of the original photoshoot. Arteta explained that the club had attempted to conduct the photoshoot on three prior occasions, but each was canceled due to unforeseen circumstances and commercial obligations.

Arteta added that Saliba was not upset by his exclusion, noting that the player is aware of his value to the team and that the situation had become a source of lighthearted banter among the squad. Saliba remains content, according to the manager.
