Mikha Morrison, 27, has been jailed for three years and four months after intentionally setting fire to a Mercedes-Benz valued at £45,000. The incident occurred in the early hours of February 15, 2026, outside a residence in Great Billing, Northampton.
CCTV footage showed Morrison pouring petrol from a green jerry can onto the black 200 model Mercedes-Benz before fleeing the scene. The fire quickly engulfed the vehicle and spread to a Kia Stonic parked next to it. Residents alerted emergency services, who responded to the blaze. Nearby homes were evacuated as firefighters worked to control the fire, which caused no injuries.
Morrison was apprehended by police shortly after the incident when officers spotted him in a taxi on Wellingborough Road. A rucksack containing a jerry can was found nearby, and Morrison was reported to smell of petrol. He later pleaded guilty to one count of arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.
"This was an incredibly dangerous incident, and we are extremely fortunate that Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service responded so quickly and were able to prevent the fire from spreading further," said Detective Constable Abigail Jones of Northamptonshire Police. "If not, the consequences could have been far more severe."
Morrison received his sentence at Northampton Crown Court earlier this month. Detective Constable Jones added, "I am pleased to see him sentenced to more than three years in prison and I hope he spends his time inside reflecting on his actions in order to make better choices when he is released. This incident had a huge impact on him and I hope the conclusion of this case and significant sentence provides him with some comfort."
