Arsenal Teen Max Dowman Sent Off for England U-19s in Match Against US

Arsenal's 16-year-old Max Dowman was sent off while representing England's Under-19 team in a behind-closed-doors match against the United States on Friday. The midfielder, who has already made two appearances and scored twice for Arsenal's first team this season, received a straight red card in the 74th minute of England's 2-1 victory.

The specific reason for Dowman's dismissal remains unconfirmed, though some reports suggest it was for violent conduct, according to The Sun. He had previously assisted former Manchester City forward Reigan Heskey in scoring the opening goal of the match in the first minute. Tottenham's Luca Williams-Barnett also scored for England, who secured the win despite playing with 10 men after Dowman's ejection.

England's Under-19 team is scheduled to play their final match of the international break against Belgium on Monday, and it is uncertain whether Dowman will participate.

Despite his early involvement with Arsenal's senior squad, Dowman has not yet played at a level higher than Under-19 international football. Under-21 manager Lee Carsley has indicated a desire to work with Dowman in the future but stressed the importance of player development at an appropriate pace. Carsley drew a parallel to the development of Ethan Nwaneri, noting the tendency to accelerate promising young players but emphasizing the need for careful timing to ensure long-term success at the senior level.
