Arsenal has finalized the acquisition of midfielder Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United for a reported fee of $75 million. The transfer marks Arsenal's fourth signing of the current transfer window, following the permanent move of Piero Hincapie and the additions of Christos Tzolis and Illan Meslier.

Guimarães has agreed to a four-year contract with the option for an additional 12 months. He expressed his excitement about the move, citing a desire for a new challenge and the opportunity to compete for trophies with Arsenal.

"Since the first time I spoke to (Andrea) Berta and Mikel (Arteta), I was excited," Guimarães stated. "I just felt inside of me that I need a new challenge in my life and I think to be an Arsenal player is going to be an exciting challenge in my life."

He added that after participating in two World Cups, he feels he is at a stage in his career where he needs a significant challenge and believes Arsenal is the right environment to achieve his goals of winning trophies and making history. Guimarães also noted his eagerness to join his compatriots and the wider squad.

Arsenal's sporting director, Andrea Berta, welcomed Guimarães, highlighting his strong mentality, quality, and leadership potential. "Bruno is a player with a great mentality and great quality, who will bring strong leadership to our squad," Berta said. "With Bruno joining us, we are further strengthening the heart of our team."

Berta also pointed out Guimarães's versatility, noting his ability to play as a defensive or box-to-box midfielder. "He combines quality with quantity, and has provided goals and assists for his team every year," Berta added. "Bruno will allow Mikel to further develop our playing style and will also increase our internal competitiveness."

The arrival of Guimarães increases Arsenal's summer spending to approximately $145 million, as the club aims to build on its recent Premier League title and Champions League final appearance.

For Newcastle, Guimarães's departure adds to a period of transition, following the earlier sales of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, and the recent resignation of manager Eddie Howe. Guimarães had been a key player for Newcastle since his $40 million transfer in 2022, with two years remaining on his contract plus an additional club option.

Mikel Arteta's pursuit of midfield reinforcements was evident despite the presence of Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, Eberechi Eze, and Fabio Vieira in the squad. Arsenal's midfield options are now further bolstered by Guimarães's addition.
