Arsenal's Max Dowman Draws Comparisons to Lamine Yamal

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino has drawn comparisons between his 16-year-old teammate Max Dowman and Barcelona's Lamine Yamal, citing their similar temperaments and talent.

Dowman recently scored a brace for Arsenal in their Carabao Cup third-round match against Ipswich, a performance that drew praise from Merino, who also plays with the now 19-year-old Yamal for Spain.

"Yeah, I would say there are some similarities in terms of their character," Merino stated. "They don't care about the spotlight. They thrive when pressure is at the highest. They are always up for the challenge and they are not shy at all - even facing the biggest names in the game. So, they are very similar."

Merino described Dowman as an "unbelievable talent" who makes a difference on the pitch, even when playing against older, more experienced opponents. He emphasized the importance of nurturing the young player's development.

"We have to keep pushing him," Merino said. "There is still big room for improvement in a lot of areas, and he knows that. So we are going to be by his side trying to get him to his best level."

Merino noted that both Dowman and Yamal possess a rare combination of exceptional talent and humility, making them receptive to guidance from veteran players. "The good thing with these kind of players - Lamine and Max - is that they are special talents, but at the same time they are very humble. They are always keen to learn and listen to the veterans. That is priceless."

In addition to Dowman, Merino also commended 17-year-old defender Marli Salmon for his composed performance against Ipswich. Merino highlighted Salmon's maturity in a crucial defensive role and his eagerness to learn from experienced teammates.
