Arsenal's Life President Ken Friar Dies at 92

Ken Friar, a lifelong servant to Arsenal Football Club and its life president, has died at the age of 92. Friar dedicated 70 years of his life to the club, culminating in his appointment as life president in 2020.

He played a crucial role in Arsenal's relocation from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium, overseeing the stadium project from its inception in 2000 until its completion six years later. Friar was recognized for his contributions to football with an OBE in 2000 and received the Freedom of the Borough of Islington in 2004.

Arsenal will honor Friar's memory by wearing black armbands during their Champions League match against Lille at the Emirates and again when they host Everton in the Premier League on October 24.

A club statement described Friar as one of the most influential figures in Arsenal's history, stating, "Since our formation in 1886, there have been many inspirational individuals who have driven our club forward, but no one has had an influence on Arsenal Football Club quite like 'Mr Friar'." The statement further noted his impact on players, local council members, staff, and his close friends and family, emphasizing his kindness and generosity. The club acknowledged his enduring presence, even after securing their 11th league title during his lifetime, and credited him for helping to elevate Arsenal's profile globally.
