Police have arrested a 67-year-old man in connection with the death of a 92-year-old pensioner that occurred 35 years ago. The arrest comes after detectives launched a murder investigation into the 1991 death of Bentley Mathias, who was initially believed to have died of a brain haemorrhage.
Mr. Mathias died in Morriston Hospital in Swansea in 1991, and his death was not treated as suspicious at the time. However, new information prompted Dyfed-Powys Police to reopen the case and initiate a murder probe. The 67-year-old suspect, from the Llandewi Velfrey area of Pembrokeshire, was arrested on Wednesday, July 22.
Authorities stated that they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the investigation. The arrested man has been released on bail pending further inquiries. The village of Llandewi Velfrey, where the suspect resides, has a population of approximately 400 people.
Mobilization for this investigation has focused on the area surrounding Llandewi Velfrey. The police force indicated that the investigation is ongoing.
