The Australian Radio Network (ARN) is reportedly ending its long-standing traffic report deal with Global Traffic Network (GTN), a move that will also see veteran broadcaster Vic Lorusso exit the network. Sources indicate ARN will transition traffic reporting in-house, a shift that could impact a contract valued at over $10 million.

Instead of continuing the outsourced service, ARN is expected to integrate traffic updates into its regular programming, delivered by either an on-air announcer or a newsreader. This approach aligns ARN with rival Nova Entertainment, which already manages its traffic reports internally.

Neither ARN nor GTN has officially commented on the reported changes. The development comes as Vic Lorusso, who has become a recognizable voice in Australian radio and serves as CEO of GTN, is set to depart the network.

Lorusso's career in traffic reporting began in Australia in 1997. He has been a prominent figure for over 25 years, known for his live traffic reports, often delivered from a helicopter. He was appointed Global Chief Executive of GTN late last year, overseeing operations across four countries. GTN, founded in Australia, provides traffic, news, fuel, weather, and entertainment content to a significant audience weekly across its international markets.

Lorusso previously held the position of CEO at Australian Traffic Network (ATN), which he joined after a work experience stint at 2GB radio. He has been credited with expanding ATN's services beyond traffic to include live updates on sports, weather, and breaking news, leading a team of 50 reporters nationwide. He has spoken about his deep involvement in the business, aiming to build it from the background while maintaining a passion for on-air broadcasting. His early career involved innovative approaches to traffic reporting, though he also recalled initial feedback about his reporting pace early in his tenure.
