Samantha Armytage has addressed persistent rumors of a rift with her former Sunrise co-host Natalie Barr, calling the speculation baffling and questioning the media's tendency to focus on purported rivalries between women.

Speaking on the red carpet at the 2026 TV Week Logie Awards, Armytage, 49, directly refuted claims of bad blood between herself and Barr, 58. "They always say [there's a feud]... what is this thing?" Armytage stated, according to the Daily Mail. She further commented on the public fascination with supposed female feuds, contrasting it with a perceived lack of similar scrutiny for men in the industry.

"Why are women always 'feuding'? Why's it not men ever feuding?" Armytage asked. "Let me tell you, there's lots of men feuding in television, but it only seems to be women [reported on]." She emphatically stated, "There's no feud. There's no feud."

The speculation dates back to Armytage's departure from Sunrise in 2021. Rumors intensified in March 2021 when it was reported that Barr and former co-host David Koch were not informed about Armytage's farewell lunch. Koch confirmed this, telling The Kyle & Jackie O Show, "We didn't know about it," adding that the Sunrise team maintained strict protocols for events due to their early start.

Earlier that month, tensions appeared to surface when Armytage wrote in her Stellar magazine column that bosses do not ask as much of married women with children. Barr responded to these claims, telling The Courier Mail that she had always worked as hard as her unmarried or childless female colleagues and had never felt her workload was reduced due to her marital status or motherhood.

In April 2021, Armytage mentioned she had not spoken to any of her former colleagues since leaving Sunrise. Further fueling speculation in May 2021, it was noted that Armytage did not follow Barr or Koch on Instagram, despite following other Seven colleagues. Armytage downplayed this on a News Corp podcast, suggesting it was an oversight.

In June 2021, Barr confirmed to The Australian Women's Weekly that she and Armytage were not close outside of work, stating, "The truth is we didn't really see each other outside the office. We had vastly different lives, I guess." Barr elaborated that while they "got along well in the office," they were "in different places" in their lives, with Armytage socializing with friends and Barr spending time with family.

Hints of a less than close relationship were also evident in July 2019 when Barr jokingly called Armytage "a b***h-faced moll" during a Sunrise segment when asked if her colleagues were as nice as they appeared on screen. Both presenters laughed, with Barr clarifying she simply liked the term.

Rob McKnight, of TV Blackbox, commented on the ongoing fascination with behind-the-scenes dynamics at Sunrise, noting that Barr, being "a straight shooter," was truthful about her friendship with Armytage. He suggested it was unsurprising that the two had different lives outside of work, attributing their professional dynamic to typical industry ambition.

Armytage's recent comments aim to put an end to the narrative of animosity between her and Barr, emphasizing her weariness with the persistent rumors.
