Arizona Murder Suspect Arrested for Drag Racing While on House Arrest
Talyn Vigil, awaiting trial for the alleged killing of Preston Lord, faces new charges after being caught racing motorcycles near ASU campus.
An Arizona man accused in the fatal beating of a teenager has been arrested for a third time, this time for drag racing on a motorcycle while under house arrest.
Talyn Vigil, 20, was taken into custody Thursday night and charged with reckless driving and racing on the highway. He was released on a $5,000 bond the same evening, according to court records. Police observed Vigil and another driver engaging in burnouts, racing, and other speed exhibitions near the Arizona State University campus in Tempe, Ariz., ABC 15 reported.
"Their actions demonstrated a flagrant and reckless disregard for the safety of other motorists," Tempe police told the outlet. Vigil had been on house arrest with electronic monitoring as part of his release conditions for the 2023 death of 16-year-old Preston Lord. A judge revoked his driver's license following the new arrest.
During a court appearance Friday, Vigil stated, "I honestly, I agree with you. So you guys take it, completely OK with me because I don’t… I’m not going to say anything, you know, but wasn’t my fault, and I’m honestly going to stay off of driving myself."
Vigil was arrested in March 2024 and charged with kidnapping and murder in connection with Lord's death. Lord was allegedly attacked by a group of teens at a Halloween party in Queen Creek, Ariz., on Oct. 28, 2023. Authorities report that Lord was with friends when an argument erupted, and as they attempted to leave, a group associated with the "Gilbert Goons" gang pursued them. Lord was reportedly pulled to the ground and beaten before being left unconscious. He died two days later from his injuries.
Vigil was one of seven teenagers arrested in connection with Lord's death. Treston Billey, William “Owen” Hines, Jacob Meisner, Talan Renner, Taylor Sherman, and Dominic Turner also face charges. Vigil, Renner, and Meisner are being tried as adults.
According to police, Vigil allegedly confessed to a friend via Snapchat that he participated in the attack, stating, "I hit a kid and this kid hit his head. And then they kicked his head in the ground and then I got word he died so idk."
This is Vigil's third arrest since being released to house arrest. In September 2025, he was arrested for violating a protection order by making contact and electronic communication. He was then arrested again in February for another reckless driving charge. On both previous occasions, he was allowed to remain on house arrest while awaiting trial for Lord's murder.
William Hines is the only defendant to accept a plea deal, receiving a 12-year prison sentence. The trials for the remaining defendants are scheduled for November.
