Arizona Mother Killed by Train While Livestreaming Run

Thelma Candelaria, 47, was fatally struck by a train on October 19, 2026, while running along railroad tracks in Eloy, Arizona. Candelaria was using her phone to livestream her morning run on Snapchat.

According to her daughter, Alaisha, Candelaria was filming one train when another approached from the opposite direction on a different track. Candelaria was reportedly wearing noise-canceling headphones, which prevented her from hearing the approaching train. The train engineer reportedly saw Candelaria between the tracks and activated the emergency braking system. Both trains sounded their horns.

Eloy Police Department officers responded to the scene near Sunshine Boulevard and Frontier Street, where they found Candelaria deceased. A broken cellphone was recovered at the site. Investigators are continuing to examine the incident.

Candelaria, a mother of seven, was baptized a few days prior to her death. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated by the family to support her children, including three minors. Her 21-year-old daughter, Shaunia, is expected to take on a primary caregiving role with the assistance of her sister, Alaisha.
