Arizona Mother Fights Off Home Intruder
A woman in Buckeye, Arizona, successfully defended herself and her infant daughter against a man who allegedly forced his way into their home and demanded she disrobe.
Bella Torres recounted an alleged home invasion and assault that occurred on October 16, where she fought off a man who entered her residence asking to use the restroom. According to Torres, the suspect immediately charged at her, grabbed her neck, and demanded she remove her clothing after forcing her to the ground and kicking her one-year-old daughter.
Torres managed to escape her home to call for help, continuing to struggle with the intruder. Security camera footage captured part of the confrontation, during which the suspect claimed he was "on drugs" and that Torres's boyfriend had sent him, stating, "He told me he was into this." When Torres pressed for her husband's name, the suspect did not respond.
The incident concluded when Torres's husband returned home, prompting the suspect to flee. Police identified the suspect as 20-year-old Adrian Ayala and arrested him within 24 hours, aided by the surveillance footage.
During Ayala's arraignment, his attorney suggested that the encounter was part of a consensual role-play scenario, claiming Ayala had been invited by Torres's husband. The judge indicated that such a defense would not be legally valid, even if the husband had consented.
Ayala was released on a $25,000 secured appearance bond and is scheduled to return to court. The incident has brought attention to the alleged assault and the subsequent legal proceedings.
