An international manhunt is underway for a 27-year-old Arizona man suspected of killing his parents, whose bodies were discovered buried in the backyard of their Litchfield Park home.
Authorities identified the suspect as Matthew Flores. Investigators believe he fled the country after the discovery of the bodies on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026. Both of Flores's parents were the victims found deceased.
During a press conference, Avondale Police Officer Daniel Benavidez stated that officers found significant amounts of blood inside the residence and evidence suggesting an attempt to clean the scene, which he characterized as indicative of foul play. The initial investigation was prompted by the three individuals disappearing under suspicious circumstances.
A mini excavator was required to remove the bodies from the backyard. The FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service are now involved in the search for Flores.
Benavidez noted that the bodies were in a state of decomposition, but could not specify the exact duration since their deaths. Detectives from the Avondale Police Department and the Phoenix Homicide Unit made the discovery, leading to the multi-agency manhunt.
Individuals acquainted with Flores expressed surprise at his designation as a suspect, describing him as a kind and sweet man. The Flores family released a statement through a representative, stating they are devastated by the events and are cooperating fully with law enforcement. They requested privacy during this difficult time and extended gratitude to their community for their concern.
