Singer Ariana Grande has publicly objected to the use of her music in a TikTok video posted by President Donald Trump's campaign team. The video, which appeared on the Team Trump TikTok page, featured a line from Grande's 2024 single "We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)" alongside text that stated, "men can’t have babies and should never compete in women’s sports."
Grande responded directly to the post, stating, "Never use my music again," and added, "Also, your truth is false."
The TikTok post, shared on a Thursday, used the lyric "Me and my truth we sit in silence" from Grande's song. The accompanying text conveyed a message critical of transgender individuals participating in women's sports. The video also featured footage of Trump approaching a podium at his October 27, 2024, rally in New York City.
Sources associated with Grande indicated that her label was working to have the song removed from the post. Representatives for Trump's campaign stated that neither the White House nor the president's official account was responsible for the video's posting. The social media post was captioned, "This shouldn’t be controversial! #trump #arianagrande #maga."
This incident follows a similar situation in June, when Grande criticized the White House for using her 2024 track "Bye" in a TikTok video that showcased arrests made by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). At that time, Grande commented, "Please do not ever use my music in relation to this barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense," and added, "Fck ice."
In the past, Grande has been vocal about her political stances, including her support for Kamala Harris during the 2024 election cycle. Following Harris's defeat, Grande expressed solidarity with those affected by the outcome and provided links to resources for the LGBTQ+ community. She has also been associated with various philanthropic causes, including donations to the Protect & Defend Trans Youth Fund and Planned Parenthood.
