Architect Banned for False Accusations Against Neighbors, Including Racism Claim

An architect has been suspended from practicing for two years after making a series of false allegations against her neighbors, which a disciplinary board found to be malicious and vindictive. Dr. Karin Elliott was accused of fabricating claims of racism, sexual and physical harassment, theft, and abuse of power.

One neighbor, retired tree surgeon Steve Davis, stated that Elliott's allegations were "ridiculous" and that she was "vindictive and malicious." He was particularly taken aback by Elliott's claim that his white Nissan Navara truck, parked in a shared driveway, was a "phallic symbol" and an example of "gender-based violence." Davis explained that he parked there temporarily due to building work on his house, a situation he noted Elliott herself had previously experienced.

Elliott, who identified with American-Irish heritage, and her partner, Francois Girardin, also alleged that a neighbor's garden wall was a politically motivated act, built to mirror former U.S. President Donald Trump's proposed wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. Girardin also complained that a neighbor would cheer for England's sports teams, especially when they played France, with their doors left open.

In a letter to local residents in February 2024, Elliott, who had applied for CCTV cameras on her property in December 2023 following neighborhood disputes, made further serious accusations. She claimed one neighbor had destroyed historic walls and trees and built on her property without consent. She also alleged another neighbor called her and her partner derogatory names and threatened violence, while also illegally building a wall on her property on a Sunday, linking it to Trump's "Build a big wall" declaration.

The Architects Registration Board (ARB) tribunal deemed Elliott's conduct to be misconduct, noting that her serious accusations were "tenuously constructed" and "casually dispensed." This is not the first time Elliott has faced disciplinary action; in 2021, she was found guilty of unacceptable professional conduct for calling neighbors "racists and Nazis" and making offensive remarks about their appearance and mental health.

Another neighbor, identified only as C, expressed relief at the ARB's decision, hoping it would end Elliott's "libellous accusations" and allow them to move forward. Elliott declined to comment when approached at her home in Norwich.
