Arch Manning Leads Texas to Gritty Win Over Ole Miss After Blowing Lead
No. 17 Texas held off No. 7 Ole Miss, 34-27, with quarterback Arch Manning contributing two rushing touchdowns.

No. 17 Texas secured a hard-fought 34-27 victory over No. 7 Ole Miss on Saturday, despite squandering a significant early lead. The win was crucial for quarterback Arch Manning, whose starting position had been under scrutiny due to his performance this season.
Manning, a junior, entered the game having thrown for 1,295 yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions. The Texas offense started strong against Ole Miss, establishing a commanding 21-point lead and heading into halftime with a 24-3 advantage. However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the second half as Ole Miss mounted a comeback.
The Rebels scored two touchdowns in the third quarter, narrowing the deficit. They continued their surge in the fourth, with quarterback Trinidad Chambliss connecting with wideout Horatio Fields for a 27-yard touchdown to tie the game at 24. Following a Manning interception, the Texas defense managed to halt the Rebels, keeping the game tied.
Manning then led Texas back into the lead with his second rushing touchdown of the game. After a missed field goal by Ole Miss, Texas extended its lead with a 33-yard field goal. The Rebels made a late push, kicking a field goal and recovering an onside kick, giving them a chance to tie the game with a final drive. The contest concluded when Texas intercepted Chambliss's Hail Mary pass.
Manning completed 18 of 30 passes for 212 yards, with one passing touchdown, two rushing touchdowns, and two interceptions. Junior wide receiver Ryan Wingo was a key offensive player for Texas, leading all receivers with 111 yards and a touchdown on seven receptions. Running back Raleek Brown contributed 157 rushing yards on 23 carries, and Michael Terry III added a rushing touchdown.
With this win, Texas improves to 5-2 on the season. Their next game is scheduled for Oct. 31 at home against Mississippi State.
