Apple TV's 'Slow Horses' Renewed Through Season 8, Plot Details for Season 7 Revealed
The acclaimed espionage series will adapt Mick Herron's novel 'Bad Actors' for its upcoming seventh season and continue through an eighth.
Apple TV+'s Emmy and BAFTA-winning spy drama "Slow Horses," starring Gary Oldman, has been renewed for a seventh season, with production extending through an eighth season. The upcoming seventh season will adapt Mick Herron's eighth Slough House novel, "Bad Actors," and is expected to follow the show's tradition of one season per year, likely premiering in Fall 2027.
The renewal for Season 7 was announced on July 8, 2025, ahead of the show's fifth season. Subsequently, on September 15, the eve of "Slow Horses" Season 6 premiere, Apple TV confirmed an eighth season. This makes "Slow Horses" Apple TV+'s longest-tenured series.
Season 7 Narrative and New Characters
Season 7 will see Jackson Lamb and his team investigating a mole within the British government, tasked with preventing the state's collapse. The plot will draw from "Bad Actors," which centers on the disappearance of a key member from a governmental think-tank focused on curbing intelligence services. The investigation leads to suspicion falling on Diana Taverner, MI5's Deputy Director-General, and involves the presence of Moscow's First Desk in London. Over at Slough House, Shirley Dander is in rehab, Roddy Ho is preparing for a new role, and a new recruit, Ashley Khan, adds to the unfolding chaos.
Teaser information from the end of Season 6 suggests a direct continuation of the season's cliffhangers. The GRU head, Vassily Rasnikov, arrives in the UK, escalating tensions and confirming that a death squad targeted MI5 agents. Taverner is shown confronting a figure named Sparrow, and Shirley Dander is sent to rehab for impulse control issues. The season appears to involve significant action, including chases, gunfights, and the potential for a large death toll, with Lamb questioning Rasnikov's activities on British soil.
New Cast Members and Book Series Context
Season 7 will introduce several new cast members, including Varada Sethu, Ethan Moorhouse, Tuppence Middleton, Merab Ninidze, and Joshua McGuire. James Callis is also set to return.
Mick Herron's "Slough House" series currently comprises nine novels. Future Seasons
Season 8 is described as featuring an "explosive confrontation" between Jackson Lamb and Diana Taverner. The plot involves a botched blackmail attempt against MI5, prompting Taverner to go on the offensive. Lamb must then uncover and neutralize one of MI5's darkest secrets.
Previous seasons of "Slow Horses" premiered in April 2022 (Season 1), December 2022 (Season 2), November 2023 (Season 3), September 2024 (Season 4), and September 2025 (Season 5), with Season 6 scheduled for September 2026. Based on this pattern, Season 7 is anticipated for Fall 2027.
