Apple TV+'s 'Nocturne' Series Explores Dark Themes with Star-Studded Cast

Apple TV+ has added the psychological crime thriller "Nocturne" to its streaming library, a series inspired by Lars Kepler's "Joona Linna" book series.

The show, created for television by Rowan Joffé and co-showrunner John Hlavin, delves into an infamous investigation into serial killer Jurek Walter, portrayed by Stephen Graham.

The Cast of 'Nocturne'

Stephen Graham stars as Jurek Walter, a notorious serial killer suspected of multiple murders and kidnappings. Graham, an Emmy, Golden Globe, and Actor award winner, has an extensive filmography including "Boardwalk Empire" and "Peaky Blinders."

Liev Schreiber plays Jonah Lynn, a former homicide detective who retired after Walter's sentencing. A tragedy in his family led him to leave Fairhaven, but he returns to the case when one of the presumed victims resurfaces. Schreiber, an Emmy and Golden Globe nominee, is known for his role in "Ray Donovan."

Zazie Beetz appears as Saga Bauer, an FBI agent and Jonah's goddaughter. Both are personally invested in the case, leading Jonah to send Saga undercover to gather intelligence. Beetz is recognized for her roles in "Atlanta" and "Joker."

Rory Culkin portrays Karl Anders, a nurse who develops a complex relationship with Jurek Walter. Culkin has appeared in "Under the Banner of Heaven" and "Black Mirror."

Poorna Jagannathan plays FBI Special Agent Alexandra Quinn, who is brought in to lead the task force investigating the case. Jagannathan has recently appeared in "Deli Boys" and "Never Have I Ever."

Bill Camp is cast as Chief Dave Ellison, the police chief of Fairhaven who worked the original case with Jonah. Camp's notable roles include "The Queen's Gambit" and "12 Years a Slave."

Gary Carr plays police officer Nathan Pollack, who previously worked with Jonah, Saga, and Ellison. Carr has credits in "21 Bridges" and "Downton Abbey."

Chrissy Metz stars as Ida Frost, the mother of two children kidnapped by Jurek Walter. Metz is widely known for her role as Kate Pearson in "This Is Us."

Landon Valentin plays Michael Frost, one of Ida's children who went missing years earlier and resurfaces at the beginning of the series, sparking a renewed investigation.

Series Premise

"Nocturne" centers on the re-emergence of Michael Frost, a young boy who disappeared with his sister Felicia three years prior and was presumed to be a victim of Jurek Walter. The series follows the renewed investigation into Walter's crimes and the efforts to find Felicia, while exploring the psychological toll on those involved.
